Just when you thought last month?s announcement about Universal Music couldn?t get any better, we are proud to announce the addition of some of the best jazz music of all time to linnrecords.com, including two Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winners: John Coltrane and Duke Ellington and Grammy Best Jazz Vocalist Award winner Diana Krall.
At the top of our list is one of the most famous Gods of Jazz: John Coltrane. His iconic and influential ?A Love Supreme? needs no introduction. Backed by his classic quartet of pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Elvin Jones, Coltrane?s performance is full of spiritual depth and emotional urgency. Listening to ?A Love Supreme? in Studio Master is a whole new experience of the extraordinary kind.
The winner of 12 Grammy Awards, Duke Ellington was one of the father figures of jazz. ?Side by Side? is the perpetually popular double bill of Ellington and his lead saxophonist Johnny Hodges. This recording showcases Ellington?s exceptional piano work with the backing of a unique sextet, resulting in a swinging illusion of a big band as Hodges swaps solos with the dynamic ensemble. This truly joyful recording shouldn?t be missed!
?From This Moment On? was pianist-singer Diana Krall?s third consecutive number-one album. A collection of songs from The Great American Songbook, Krall sounds at ease as she explores works by Cole Porter, the Gershwins, Irving Berlin and Johnny Mercer with her explosive big band. Her cool, velvet voice is full of confidence and perfectly polished as she performs her best collection of ballads to date. Krall is without a doubt one of the greatest voices of contemporary jazz.
The treasure hunters at Universal have dug up many more gems, so watch this space as additional albums will be added weekly.
